Kitchen Hood Roof Fan Belt Replacement
It is critical to keep the kitchen hood roof fan clean and well-maintained. The following are best practices for maintaining a safe and efficient kitchen hood system. A commercial kitchen hood should be installed with a certified NFPA 96 fire suppression system to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Clean and inspect the ductwork regularly to avoid the possibility of a grease fire. The kitchen hood system electrical switches should be disconnected to allow for proper kitchen hood cleaning and inspection.

Replacing the belt
The roof fan belt should be inspected and replaced when wear and cracks are found. Before beginning any inspection be sure the electrical connections are off and your lock out tag is in place. Open the top of the kitchen hood roof fan by removing the three screws or clips. The motor, pulleys and belt is inside on top. Easily accessible and clearly seen even with a headlamp when it’s night. The belt is easily slipped off of the pulley wheels and taken to any auto parts store for a replacement. We typically buy an extra and leave it with the customer or on the roof near the fan for future or emergency use. After installing the new belt you should check for alignment of the pulleys and shaft. If abnormalities are found they should be addressed immediately. A loose bearing block or mis-aligned pulley will quickly destroy a new belt. Clean any grease dirt and debris from on or around the motor and reinstall the kitchen hood roof fan lid. Be sure that all three screws or clips are firmly secure. Once everything is reassembled, remove the lock out tag and flip the motor switch. Listen to ensure the motor is running and the belt is freely turning and air is exhausting from the kitchen hood system. While you are on the roof check the grease containment system and get a few pics of the fan area.
