MURRYSVILLE — A Westmoreland County business is picking up the ashes after an early-morning fire. Fire crews call the building a total loss.
The Spaghetti and Steakhouse restaurant sits along Route 22 charred and destroyed after flames ripped through it. Fire crews said the flames went through the first and second floor of the building before shooting up into the night sky.
According to White Valley VFD Chief John Bohinc, it started around 3:30 a.m., and no one was inside.
“All we know is the business was closed, and we are starting the investigation now,” Chief Bohinc said.
Fire crews took two hours to get the fire under control. Chief Bohinc said the size of the flames was the biggest challenge they faced.
“Upon arrival, it was fully involved. Just takes some time and effort to knock the fire down. Then going through the debris and getting the hot spots,” Chief Bohinc said.
A nearby gas station was not impacted by the devastating blaze. It was far enough away to not catch on fire.
“It was all contained to the structure,” Chief Bohinc said.
He added there were about six or seven crews that were part of the effort. No firefighters were injured while putting it out.
“Just a little tired. Need to go home and get some sleep. That’s all,” Chief Bohinc said.
There is no word on what caused the fire. Murrysville Police and the State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause
Fires can easily spread when flames get to the kitchen hood duct and exhaust system. The filters, hood and ducts used to extract the grease laden vapors are typically covered by grease buildup. Keeping your restaurant kitchen on a set schedule will minimize catastrophic risks.
